Coble “FRIARAGE” for Restoration

“Friarage”

Hartlepool’s fishing Coble “Friarage – HL80″ is now undergoing restoration at North East Maritime Trust (NEMT)
NEMT is proud to announce that the Friarage, a historically significant coble originally hand-built in Whitby using traditional materials and methods, is now scheduled for full restoration.
Believed to be the very last hand-made coble in more recent times, she has been given pride of place in our main workshop as work begins to restore/preserve this unique vessel for future generations.
With a rich fishing heritage rooted in Hartlepool, Friarage carries many remarkable stories from her working life on and offshore — stories we look forward to sharing as restoration progresses.
As part of the “Tides of Change” initiative at Hartlepool Museum, Friarage will be carefully restored by the Trust, while working closely with volunteers from the Hartlepool community.
This project will also provide NEMT with longer term security during these uncertain times.
